I looked at the list of stocks believed to be included in the new index and found that 1/3 of them are resource related. There is only two technology companies--Nortel and Newbridge.

Newbridge will likely make the new index because the TSE is trying to shed its image as an exchange with a resource bias. The fact that 1/3 of the companies in the new index are resource related tells me that the resource weighting is still too high. Nortel can't be the only tech company in the index if this new index is to be representative of the real Canadian economy, so therefore I believe Newbridge is a safe bet.

By the way, the list includes nine oil companies--this is a ridiculously high number.

With the news expected this week from NN, I would imagine today would a last chance for shorts to cover.
