Colin, I believe you are presuming all statements look like yours....NOT. My account number is 123-45678. There is NO 9th or 10th digit. There is NO indication to the LEFT or to the right of each holding as to its type....for the record, the info given on holding is quantity, name of company, current price, market value, yield (dividends) and estimated income. PERIOD. I am not trying to beat a dead horse, but this is a classic case of all of us being responsible for taking statements here with a grain of salt. Just because you claim to know the difference between type 1 and type 2 accounts does not mean you know how all brokerage houses report same on their statements. Perhaps your broker is simply more informative than mine as to the detail on the statement.
