bp,

There's some problem with my profile. I sent a message to Jill and she responded that they're trying to fix it.

Actually, it wasn't the 1997 annual meeting that made me feel bullish -- I was there long before the meeting. The Intel announcement in April 1997 and the recommendation from a friend who designs ASICs for one of the major disk drive manufacturers (who brought Rambus to my attention).

The annual meeting was a surprise, however. I'd never been to an annual meeting before; I'd only seen the video footage of packed auditoriums with microphones everywhere for the multitude of questions. At $1+ billion market cap, I figured Rambus's would be like this.

The meeting was held in a conference room in a small hotel in Palo Alto. The room was about 30' by 30'. I had to check that I was in the right place about 3 times. There were 20 to 25 people total at the meeting, and I'd be very surprised if there were more than 3 of us (no exaggeration!) who weren't Rambus employees or from the auditors. It started at 9:30 AM, I believe. If you got there at 9:40, you missed all the "official" business (earnings report and proxy vote). They picked up 3 proxy ballots at the meeting and basically dumped them in the trash as they announced the results of the elections (my naivete -- I actually took my proxy with me to the meeting expecting to hear some discussion). Tate then gave a short presentation, I think Harmon spoke, then someone on the technical side gave a presentation on the basic technology. By 10:15 the meeting was over and we left. Generally a waste of time, though I did get a bit of an education and certainly lost some serious naivete. <g>
