Yes. I expect that once the genie is out, it will pay a visit to each and every debtor nation and grant them their one wish.

As for the lending nations, what will be our recourse?? Trade barriers? Invade?? (we don't do that anymore, right??)

Wouldn't we be worried about the instability in these nations that might impact our national interests, such as oil, strategic metals, etc..?

That is the quandary that west faces. It is as much a hostage of its loans as are the debtor nations that are trying to service that debt.

And defaults are usally cloaked under a convenient banner of nationalist fervor.

But again, I don't expect the true defaults to begin until after Jan. 2000.
