Logic, schmogic...

Here I thought myself so superior to the internet-stock-nuts, holding on to my ESV and TDW, in the belief that the latter deserved to go up, while the former only deserved to plunge...

But the cold fact of the matter is that I could not POSSIBLY have lost more money buying and holding internet stocks than I have lost buying and holding oil patch stocks...And I might actually have MADE some.

So, who's the sucker?? :-( :-( :-(

jbe

P.S. No time, or desire, to bounce in & out, short-term trading, putting, shorting, etc., etc.

But there is also no news forthcoming that would indicate to us the prices WON'T go any lower (for these stocks OR the Oil itself). That being said, even though today's prices are not bad, who's to say they won't go lower ? Do I expect to buy in at the perfect bottom ? NOPE. but i think they will go a bit lower within 2 weeks, then start to work up as Christmas travel (for some reason...) MIGHT push up prices at the pump. (but the 4th of July and the Labor day travel didn't do anything at all to prices). I agree today's prices DO offer a great amount of value (read: short-term and long-term profit-taking).
I do wonder why SOME of these stocks have dropped 10-15% today, while some others are down 5% or less...... NE and VRC i could see, but SLB HAL and DO ??

Too soon to be sure, but this could well the final climactic selloff in both OSX and POO. Volume in the majors is running far above normal for first time in this decline. If we close well above the worst levels of the day and volume remains huge, the worst probably is over.

Slider and all:

It's 70 degrees today in Rochester, NY. We usually have a couple feet of snow by now.

This is a fact, not a theory or emotion. Interpret it as you will, but the furnaces have not been burning here. And if I'm a portfolio manager in NYC, taking a walk in the sunshine during lunch time, I'm thinking that the last thing I'm going to buy into is a company praying for a cold winter. Maybe it will snow tomorrow; I don't know. But I know it sure isn't snowing today.

If I were the only person in a mall during holiday season, I wouldn't buy retailers, no matter how low they had gone. why should this be any different?
