YHOO is making money while LCOS & XCIT are still in the red. You also have to consider YHOO as the leader in the portal race as well as being a household name for most internet users.

Can somebody explain to me why Yahoo is a better investment than Excite or Lycos?

First off, never use the word investment and the company Yahoo in the same sentence. Yahoo is a better gamble than Excite and Lycos, because more money continues to flow into Yahoo. Yahoo is also the poster child for the great internet bubble of 1998.

My husband & I are relative neophytes at I'net. He likes to use Excite, I prefer Yahoo. He bought Excite stock because based on his analysis (& his preference for their "product"). I bought Yahoo - same reasons. I think a number of newer investors (people who are getting into the stock market via the internet) may be doing the same thing.
