That wasn't an argumentative statement. It was a factual statement of the political combativeness between the parties. Democrats did not lose in the 70's. It was in the 80's as a result of Ronald Reagan, the 1979-1981 recession, and the decline of American military stature in the 70's. There will eventually be a recession here in the next couple of years or so, and the cards will be thrown up again. The decline of America's strategic role under Clinton's administration has been pretty obvious. As for Nixon in the 70's, I would consider him essentially a Democrat (as with George Bush)...he originated the triangulation strategy that Clinton used. Nixon enacted some of the most liberal policies to garner votes and distance himself from the Republicans.
