Broadband Up 44%; Co Says Has No News To Explain Rise

Dow Jones Newswires

CHARLOTTE -- A spokesman for BroadBand Technologies Inc. (BBTK) said
the company had no news that explains the 48% rise in the company's shares
Monday.

"I haven't found anything that would qualify as news that would cause the
stock to do what it is," Executive Vice President Rick Jones said.

The company continues to work "feverishly" with its financial advisor, CIBC
Oppenheimer Corp., to complete a financial restructuring plan intended to help
retain BroadBand's listing on the Nasdaq National Market, Jones said.

But when the plan would be completed "is hard to say," he said. Asked if it
could be by the end of the year, Jones said that deadline "seems quick with the
holidays and all."

As reported, Nasdaq on Nov. 13 granted Broadband Technologies an extension
for continued listing in order to provide the company time to complete its
financial plan. The company won't release the deadline associated with the
extension.

"We didn't specify the deadline but have said we think there's plenty of time to
get the restructuring done in time," Jones said.

Shares of BroadBand Technologies recently were up 1 1/2 to 4 5/8. Volume
was 753,800 shares, or nearly five times average daily volume of 153,400.

BBTK, appears to be something from the past with LUcent is coming back to help them. 52 week is around $9, so todays action got them back to the $4's from the $3's. Still negative book value. Wonder how they do that?

Private message me if you get excited about RDRT or this sector again. I am off chasing the Networkers, again.

Later, Dennis

Stitch, (OT)
<On another note: I bought BBTK about three weeks ago and they had a 46% jump today. The thread for BBTK is inactive. Anyone here know why they had the jump?>
Western Cable Show underway. Sort of a big event for cable, broadband, and convergence news. Don't know if BBTK is there but Show has a history of making news and moving stocks.

Just spoke with Jane Conn at RDRT. She indicated that it appeared that orders were firming up for December and January - but she was cautioned me that things could change (i think they are being overly conservative because of what happened this spring/summer)
They are not giving guidance on sales for 12/98 qtr other than they are comfortable with the 10-15% increase over last quarter. She is not sure that they will be at breakeven cash flow for 12/98 qtr., but indicated that they will not use a significant amount of cash either.

She indicated that they were were receiving very good feedback on their GMR prototypes. Maybe if you are going to the microcontamination symposium you could ask around and let us know what others think about their current generation of MR as well as the GMR samples

**OT** a little humor from Ann Landers
John invited his mother over for dinner. During the meal, Mom couldn't help noticing how attractive and shapely the housekeeper was. She wondered if there was more going on than met the eye. John told her, "I know what you must be thinking, Mom, but I assure you, my relationship with my housekeeper is purely professional."
A week later, the housekeeper told John, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the beautiful silver gravy ladle. You don't suppose she took it, do you?" So John sent his mother a letter that read, "Dear Mother: I'm not saying you did take a gravy ladle, and I'm not saying you didn't, but the fact remains that one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner."
Several days later, John received a letter from his mother that said, "Dear Son: I'm not saying you sleep with your housekeeper, nor am I saying you don't. But the fact remains that if she were sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle by now. Love, Mom"
