Ariella: Thanks for the info. I've been trading a long time too. I made 25k Friday and lost 15k today. I had a couple a good trades and a bunch of bad ones.

When will I learn?

I know I have to be more disciplined. Especially when on margin.

What do you think about the rumor on the Fed not allowing margin on the internets?

Craig

Well Ariella I am in at 5.5 overall on this,so I feel no pain--
but yes all you say is true--I myself never buy into a gap-up in a situation like this--and open market orders are crucifying in these situations--so listen to Ariella and learn---wait! at the bell on days like this.Good Luck,Max

Ariella, GREAT words of wisdom -- that I know by heart -- and that I did not follow today. If I would have sold at the open on MALL, DBCC, MZON, and NAVR, I would have made lots of $$$, and enjoyed taking opportunities during the day. Instead, when I saw the high opening numbers, I thought I'd need to pay a premium to get back in, especially on the IPO stocks. AND when I tried to sell, the Waterhouse WebBroker messaged, "Order Processing System Not Available, Please Try Later".

It's been a bloody day, but good -- because I learned a very hard lesson about "one more fling" with a speculative stock when there are great profits on the table.
Thanks for the pep talk. We losers need it!

I strat. I find that works is to look at the Bid vs Ask (when the stock is below opening), If the bid to ask ratio drops three times in a row, I sell. For what it's worth, probably not much, because if you can't get through to your broker or the lines are so clogged you can't make a trade, then NOTHING does any good except to beat the curve!

Thanks for the kind advice on a losing day.
I was too greedy this morning, didn't sell at the open. Learnt my lesson.

Ariella, one last thought. On internet mania stocks you might not be able to get out at all. When they eventually crash, they will fall so far so fast, and no MM's will be taking orders, you will be lucky to get away with anything. Its a tough game, the downside is so astronomically dangerous to some of these companies like ONSL,EBAY,that when they do gap down, they are gapping down a hundred points, and no broker will answer his telephone.

Excellent post....I would add, when you see a stock that gaps like this, on hype largely and not on a tangible change in fundamentals like a buyout you can attach a price to....the gap usually fills.

NAVR today is a perfect example.....closed friday 12 3/16, opens at 26+ and falls hard to....12. I got in at 13 1/2 today by being patient, albeit not as patient as I preach LOL. And in the mayhem it was literally hours before I could confirm that I was in, so I missed selling. Ahh well. Best regards, Eric
