Barry:
Well it is so encouraging to find out we share a passion; that being bike riding. I too did a 23 miler on an abandoned Railroad trail made into a state park Thanksgiving day. I have an 18 speed that I have modified to suit my needs. Your son, sits behind you ? I can't quite picture the tandem unless it is a dual peddle bike , but I have seen the spare seat.

I sold out all yesterday with the exception of hy yi bonds and real estate; and I saw last night that both REIT's and hy yi bonds both went up yesterday on a 200 negative day for the DOW; not a bad call for the Lord.

I will keep the pastor you mentioned in my prayers. It is hard for me to relate to a pastor starting from scratch. Our church is so bless financially that it is almost incredible the abundance the Lord has brought us but there are those situations where a pastor will struggle and struggle. I have seen pastors become very bitter over their financial situation.

When I first met our pastor he came into my business and ordered carpet for the parsonage. He told me to put it in without my giving him the price. He just told me to bill them. I asked if he wanted me to call him with the estimate. He said NO ! Just do what you can, and we will be happy with whatever price you quote. I thought. This is so unlike any other pastor I have ever dealt with. He is truly trusting the Lord for his abundance. He knew I was a Christian and I felt he was trusting me to NOT take advantage of the trust he was placing in me. Well, I was so impressed I later joined his church and believe you me I alone have paid for that carpet over and over with the tithes and offerings I have given there. This is just one example but the list goes on. Our current pastor said just this past Sunday from the pulpit that He did not consider our current congregation as our churches financial source, but the LORD is our source. He said that He wanted us to give the Lord our sincere praise and worship, to seek the presence of the Lord and to endeavor to build a close relationship through prayer and bible reading and fellowship and that compared to these paying tithes is secondary. Well. I almost saw the deacon board slide under the pew and grimace with pain but I believe he spoke the truth. And our church keeps on setting tithing records and we keep on adding ministries.

So there is a correct attitude for a pastor to have about finances and so many do not. I know you could argue which comes first , the chicken or the egg. Meaning financial problems in many churches cause the pastor to become all consumed with stretching the few dollars that come in to the point that they become petty and greedy with those limited funds or you can say the initial attitudes are wrong to begin with and the problems just compound from there.

I'll withhold an opinion, but I always say if the shoe fits wear it....In Christ..gregor
