Sunglass Hut International Reports an 1.4% Increase in November Comparable Store Sales

CORAL GABLES, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 3, 1998--Sunglass Hut International (Nasdaq:RAYS - news), reported today that sales for the four weeks ended November 28, 1998 were $30.4 million, an increase of 2.4% compared to the $29.7 million reported for the same period last year. Comparable store sales for the four-week period increased 1.4%.

Year to date sales for the forty-three weeks ended November 28, 1998 increased 4.1% to $493.1 million compared to $473.6 million for the comparable period in 1997. Year-to-date comparable store sales increased 2.2%.

John X. Watson, President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, ''We are pleased with the progress of our results in November. Favorable weather and a strong Thanksgiving weekend traffic played a significant role in improving sales in the latter half of the month, particularly in North America. Additionally, our international business performed well, with both Australia and Europe demonstrating positive results during the month.''

Watson continued, ''Watch Station, on the other hand, experienced weak performance. Saying that, we are well positioned for the holiday with a good in-stock position and with the recent mailing of over one million Watch Station catalogs, we look for this business to improve in December.''
