David,

A little news anyway... sort of, A sheriff running for re-election (unopposed) on the basis of IDX...

From the Mountain-Ear, Colorado Oct 30 98

SHERIFF

Bruce Hartman
Incumbent Bruce Hartman is running unopposed. He has held the position of Sheriff since Rosetta Anderle resigned in January of 1992. He was elected in 1994. Hartman began writing grants while Undersheriff, and continues to do so. Currently, 62 percent of his staff salaries are paid from grants. He has purchased state of the art fingerprinting equipment called Identix. This system is installed, but not yet on-line with Colorado Bureau of Investigation. When it is hooked up with CBI, Gilpin County will have access to ASIS, a national fingerprinting data bank. Fingerprints transmitted over the phone line would be run against existing national records, with a result in less than 10 minutes.

You know it is a combinations of things that is driving IDX up. I have to go along with Brad that the Newsweek article breaking this weekend is the major reason the stock is up. When you see Gates knocking "Pins" and Identicator follows in the same article in a magazine which has 3 to 5 times the coverage of CNBC, you know it has impact. We've been waiting for the public to hear about IDX and the Newsweek article is doing it. However, other factors are contributing also. There is the fact that IDX was driven down to an unrealistic level when compared to other high tech stocks. What has been another catalyst is the huge speculation in the internet stocks. People are out trying to find the next Amazon.com.-- some stock that might have internet appeal. The Newsweek article has given them that potential stock.

I agree with you that IDX has to follow with a huge announcement.
