Yes...when you find a good wild asparagus patch you keep it to yourself... (-: I have a favourite little patch that can only be reached by canoe.... oooopss!!...can't say anymore about it... ;-}

yes, if you start your asparagus patch from seed, it will take about 4 years for them to start coming in strong. You can buy 1-2-or3 year crowns to get a head start.

I usually but 1 year crowns. the most inexpensive way to get a jump on them.

Regarding the secret patches.......yep! we have some ditched areas by certain rail road tracks that my grandfather showed me, and they just keep on spreading. Much sweeter than the hybrid varieties, but smaller in scale.
