I don't know if the USB drives are any different, but the SCSI
Zip drives on a Mac could read and write both Mac and PC format
Zip disks. The PC based Zips cannot read Mac format Zip disks.
I suspect the same will be true with the USB drives-the file system
is dependent upon the operating system and the drivers, and not on the
electronic interface.
