"Why is it that today, the Holy Spirit does not move men to write?"

I'll give you a verse first before addressing your question.
I Peter 3:15
"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.."

The bible from a Christian point of view is a completed work, not that all the prophecies have been fulfilled yet concerning end times but in that it is finished in the writing. Revelation 22:18-19 even gives a stern warning to anyone who would add to or remove from God's word.
In that the Holy Spirit does not move people to add to the completed work.
Does He inspire people to speak or write a letter to someone or make a phone call or a myriad of various things? Yes.
I will go as far as saying that because God never changes He still talks to people today, directly by the Holy Spirit. Why wouldn't He? After all He is God and He loves His children.
There is no reason for you to believe me as you do not know me or for that matter I could be lying to you, but for what gain? I cannot benefit from you financially or in any other way. What motivates a Christian then? Obedience to God and a genuine concern for others in that they hear the good news of the gospel. There is a heaven to gain and judgment to avoid.
I cannot ask you to accept what I say as truth I can only "give you a reason for the hope that is in me." It is up to you to decide as it is not up to me to convert you, I must only share the gospel and the rest is up to God and you.
My reason for hope rests in that after I believed and became a Christian, God did reveal Himself to me in many ways. Answered prayers, a miraculous healing of my daughter, seeing things that could only have been orchestrated of God, hearing His voice, and knowing His presence. Nothing that I can prove to you nor expect you to believe yet these and many other things are the reasons for my belief.
I and many others here on this thread are not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and wether you can believe it or not there is a genuine love held out to you by us that we share in Christ and is directed towards you and all who do not yet know the most precious gift ever given to mankind.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Your quote is interesting concerning Jesus Christ Superstar, "If you'd come today, you would've reached a whole nation. Israel 24BC had no mass communication."
Hear what the actual Jesus Christ has to say,
Matthew 23
29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets."

I believe the religious hypocrites of today would still crucify Him and it would still be according to God's plan.

In Christ,
John
