Thanks for bringing that response to my attention. I read it with great interest and urge other SUNW contributors to do likewise.

Here is an interesting discussion about SUNW from another thread.

As to reading SUNW discussions from other threads, here is
are links to some interesting links with some opinions
on other threads.

"rudedog" opinion on why SUNW will not benefit from "Internet activities":

"Michelle Harris" responds with agreement and suggests since Unix
uses standars, it cannot have any edge over NT:

"rudedog" responds again saying "Linux" is another reason why Sun
will lose.

Interesting reading. Both rudedog and Michelle seem very articulate
and knowledgeable....but ofcourse we know that not everyone who
can articulate opinions is right <GGG>. No need for the "bulldogs"
on this thread to pounce on them. <GG>

I remember reading almost 7-8 years ago a byte magazine with the
title "Is Unix Dead?". I almost sold some SUNW stock I had then
and started reading up on NT though I am glad I did not sell the
stock. I wonder what Michelle was thinking when she said "NT has
a few weaknesses" and thought Unix can compete by "catching up".

The hype of "NT will takeover the world" has continued much
faster than reality and I must say SUNW has kept up pace
with improving and investing in products and in general competing
and not capitulating like HP, Digital, SGI etc. Maybe it will die,
(and in the long run we are all dead <G>) but atleast it would not
do it without competing. People were writing off IBM at one time
too but they seem to have got back to profitability and growth
even if at a slower rate.

I sold some SUNW in fifties in this runup, feeling the itch
to sell like Alex Chun was, and I am now kicking myself.
If Dale J wins the current p*ss of contest on this thread, I hope
I can buy back my stock. <GGG>
