Do we really care how many people are setting up NT machines in their closets to run a small web site?
I do. My clients keep buying large Compaq servers to run large database systems. This is in spite of what I tell them (and it's my job to know). Their reason is that the Compaq/NT stuff costs a lot less both H/W wise and S/W wise. That's true. Unfortunately the reality is, the 2 processor Ultra-2 I just installed runs Sybase roughly 10 times faster than the 4 processor Compaq 5000 they wanted, yet does not cost 10 times as much. It's worrying...

Mike... I think you addressed this post to the wrong person. To be honest I have no opinion re: the subject of your letter. Possibly someone else posted a comment to which you are replying.
