I was gonna post something about that last night...got all the way through it...edited out all the red. Looked at it, then decieded it was just too far fetched to believe, beer talking. Kinda on the lines of Postal delivery of e-bills...before Canada Post jumped in the fray.

Well here's the best I can remember about Telcos' in Banking, minus the beer.

Telco's provide most everybody the complete hardware/infastructure to communicate by voice. All we need is a phone and some wire. Then we can choose additional services from our Telco...call waiting, caller id for example.

Telco's are now hosting businesses website for their business customers...post office isn't doing it, neither are the banks. Why because Telco's are already in the business of distributing Voice, digital data is right up their ally. Once the business is hosted they then can offer 'plug in' type services to us at the push of a button. Just like they do our phone with caller id or call waiting.

So to me last night this press about Bell getting into hosting Banks makes a lot of sence...why should the smaller banks invest in all the hardware & software for on line banking or e-comm? Or a small business of that matter? Telco's will set it all up, and then just plug in all the small ones, who can't afford to invest, because of technology creap...buying into something and have it be out dated in 6 months.

This Edfy Bell deal makes perfect sense for the small bank or credit union wanting to go on line, but without the technical know-how or resources to commit to stay in the hunt as this thing progresses. Super deal for Edfy being the small company in this big deal.

So if they can do that much...host a bank, then why couldn't Intuit thru QuickBooks allow an up load of e-billings into one of these Telco/Integrion, Telco/CheckFree or Telco/Bank channels...probably nothing. Since this is more of a natural for a Telco to be hosting this data then the neighborhood bank or the local post office on an outsource basis...

I'll just take it one further. Consider CheckFree e-bill the Caller id option in this futuristic hosted e-comm network....then if CheckFree ever gets bought out...a Telco will be the buyer...not a bank.

So how about it Telco's? Anybody want to buy CheckFree?
