Optical networks with bandwidth of 10 Gbps or higher carry more than 70% of Internet core traffic today. Packet routing is likely to converge with optical networking in near future. The increased routing speed shall offer a direct link from enterprises to high-speed DWDM infrastructure in the outside world, and eventually eliminate the ATM and SONET layers now used in WAN.

This will put more gigabit devices, which VTSS dominates, on to corporate America's backbones and desktops as well.
