The question of speed versus image quality also depends somewhat on the genre of games you are playing. In multiplayer Quake, Quake2 etc framerate is probably more important than anything else. However in an online RPG such as Everquest image quality might be more important. On VoodooExtreme there is a link to an article comparing Voodoo2 vs TNT on Everquest a new 3d online RPG which should be released in January. notcrazy.com The results he finds on the Voodoo2 are not encouraging and maybe this is the same kind of behavior which causes the Voodoo2 to be slow on Q3 arena. Personally I would rather play at 1024*768 at 32 bit color then at 1280*1024 at 16 bit color. On Sunday VoodooExtreme also had some numbers on the on the ATI Rage 128 running on a P450. The fact that the ATI card seems to be able to run in 32 bit color without as big a drop in framerate as the TnT is both interesting and worrisome. It will be interesting to see some in-depth reviews on this card when it comes out.
