I generally agree with you. A week ago I would have sworn that we would make a complete the 3rd leg of a triple bottom (for most of the stocks in this sector) this week. However, we may actually take out the double bottom and search for a new support level.

Up until a few days ago, everything was based on the price of crude, and speculation of when it would rebound. Now, in addition to that, we have new negativity towards the demand side for the service sector, brought on my the Exxon/Mobil merger and the expectation of further consolidation at that level, which will result in consolidated or canceled exploration projects, etc.

The bright side is that this will turn into renewed speculation for consolidation within the service sector. For the near term, I believe it will be better to be a holder of the acquiree versus the acquiror. Anyone care to speculate as to who the prime targets might be?
