Called to buy Compaq direct this morning. Oddly enough, was told Compaq collects sales tax on direct purchases. Why? The courts have ruled that internet sales need not be taxed. Dell does not collect the tax in most states (but advises that it's your personal responsibility to comply with laws in your state). Really liked the Compaq computer but making a choice seemed like a no-brainer. By the way, looked high and low throughout Compaq web site for a feedback link. Doesn't seem to be anyway for us to communicate with them. Reason #2 for buying the Dell. Any comments on the tax policy or a feedback link appreciated. Hope all here make a lot of money.....I think you could make more.....
