So it's in the bag then; QCOM gets their convergence and royalties???
They've shaken hands w/ERICY?

An Evening with Irwin Jacobs...

From the today's San Diego Union-Tribune CompeterLink section:

MONDAY (I assume the 7th!)
San Diego Telecom Council hosts "An Evening with Irwin Jacobs", 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Grande Torrey Pines, 10950 N. Torrey Pines Road, La Jolla. Irwin, chairman and CEO of Qualcomm, will talk about the new venture with Microsoft to promote wirelesss data, the emergence of wireless local loops in offshore markets and the battle for dominance in "3G" -- which will enable very high-speed, high-bandwidth connections to mobile terminals. Cost: $40 in advance (preregistration deadline is today), $45 at the door. Information: (619) 550-6100.

(Off Topic, I met my wife at a party at this Sheraton in April '94.)

Also,
The MIT Enterprise Forum meets Dec. 9 form 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Qualcomm auditorium, 6455 Lusk Blvd. Topic: "The Impact of Innovation: Andy Viterbi Interviews Andy Kay"." Viterbi is co-founder and vice chairman of Qualcomm. Kay is CEO of Kay Computers and founder of KAYPRO. Cost: $15. Reservations are requested. Information, reservations: (619) 236-9400 or visit the Forum Web site at sddt.com.

(Very Off Topic: Sometime in '92 or '93, when QCOM was a much smaller company, I attended another party in this building. Was not aware of the Q at the time, and not sure if they were even in the building then. I did not meet a wife, but did get a phone number that led to a stormy 3-month relationship. Ahh, the memories... ;))

Also, from the same section of the paper, an ad for San Diego Technical Books, advertising 10% off "rarely discounted wirless books" including APPLICATIONS OF CDMA IN WIRELESS/PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS, SMART ANTENNAS FOR WIRELSS CDMA, and several other wireless books. (619) 279-4990, sdtb.com.

(Off Topic: I have been to this Bookstore (back in my engineering days), but did not meet anyone!!!)

If anyone is going to either seminar/forum, please send me a private e-mail. Maybe we can discuss how the world would be a better place without GSM and/or the French! :) I have not signed up for either event yet, but will probably attend at least one, schedule permitting.

Great Investing to All,

Steve
