Robert,

"When comments are made... l respond and will continue...."

Let me use the AMAT thread as simply one example of many on SI where the level of discussion is intelligent--not ignorant--but still highly charged at times! The keys to this include that participants simply avoid personal attacks. Such do occur, but they are very rare and usually from someone new to the thread. When they occur, threaders raise objections. But the objections are not, in themselves, attacks. In other words, the attitude of the response to insults is simply ‘it's not okay to make insults here.' In my book, this reflects maturity.

In my book, when an insult is received, the best and most mature response is to simply issue a call for civility. If I fail to respond to an insult with civility, who will take the initiative? When? If I am insulted by someone here and I respond with like, how will that improve my understanding of YF.A as an investment? How can my incivility, even in an on-line community, possibly enrich my life?

Again, I propose that the discussion here be vigorous but never insulting. If there are those who want to insult or respond to insults in kind, then please do us all a favor and go somewhere else--you are not wanted. I want to concentrate on learning about YF.A.

Regards,
David Todtman
