Ben, thanks for taking the time.....I suspect your overall view is correct. Would seem to be a major blow to Compaq's direct sales model v. Dell and other big direct sellers. Strange, that they are at a disadvantage even to some of their own on-line resellers.....I responded to large ValueAmerica ad in NYTimes and was told no sales tax on the Compaq box I was 'looking' at. According to other repts. on the boards, Herb was in a 'pissy' mood on CNBC this a.m. Did you happen to catch him?
