Admit it - you have a bias against gold - not that there's anything wrong with that - except when you make statements like 'gold is not a holder of value' This is a crass statement made by a person who has a north american perspective. For millions and millions of people around the world at different times gold has indeed been a holder of value. The examples are too numerous to catalogue - but consider the dowry system in India for one. Recent events in the far east have shown that those who held gold did very nicely, thank you. Yes they could have done as well or better holding US dollars or Swiss Francs, or whatever, but they held gold which is a tradition, and is traded in the market place. You no doubt do well from your trading, although I note that you have been stopped out on occasion - but where you get under my skin is where you try to rationalise prejudice. E

Hutch,
Speaking of burstin bubbles, it is high time we put that bit of BS to bed right now. For the common man, gold ownership can drive a "growth" as valid as many others. I found out that many (mine included) will accept gold eagles(or maples or k-rands) as additional collateral on any major loan to lower the interest rate by means of over securing the loan. Yes, you have to let them hold the gold, but this provides as true a "dividend" to the common person as most of todays Internet issues.

Oh yes, as to price. You forget the two most basic of economic laws -
supply & demand. When the American people are buying over 1.75 Million oz of gold - and only in the form of gold Eagles - & growing by the hour - one can only guess where the demand might well be in the next 6 months. Then. If you wish to discuss demand, what could be the demand in 2002 when the population of India is greater than that of China?

Hi Hutch,

Indeed, there is no conspiracy to demonetize gold from the US -- that happened during the Nixon Administration.

On the other hand, there does appear to be a conspiracy to demonize gold, and not just in the US.
