hi,

I just interviewed at MSFT (and had to turn down their offer).
You are granted options when you start, but they vest slowly
(you accumulate them over the next four & a half years).

Yes, employees are granted another chunk (depending on performance
review) once a year -- these start vesting on a similar timeline as
your initial options grant.

I note that the amount of options being granted seems to be
declining -- at least this was my observation comparing notes
with folks who joined anywhere from 2 to 10 years ago
(which is why i couldn't take their offer).
