why do you think the debt mkt stopped functioning until Uncle Al started running the presses. L-T result of his knee jerk reaction is to accelerate the the foreigners thru the exit signs.

This is only part of the story, BA layoffs are the tip of the iceberg IMHO.

Do you know how much semiconductors or high tech parts or aluminium goes into an airplane?? Or in other words, the amount of US paid working hours??

I remember the last downturn in airplanes markets. I was trying to finance a sale leaseback of an DC-10 for a SE Asia country, the price of the plane was falling around $1 million per 10 days or so. It started with around $30 million and several months later I gave up at $14 million.

BTW speaking of asset deflation, it is not only stocks <GGG>

When they start pulling this money, if they do, and with the U S savings rates the way they are,

Monty,

The question would be where would they put all of that money?? Europe?? Could be, but they have their own problems trying to stabilize currency in anticipation of the EMU.

Japan?? Just to attract 0.25% interest rates? (In some places negative rates)

Brazil?? naaaahhh.....

Russia?? Wouldn't be prudent....

Gold?? Hmmmm..... But aren't the central bankers selling gold in a vain attempt to keep a lid on the price (and thus maintain the perception of economic health)

When the fur flies, there will be nowhere to hide except precious metals. Until then, I can't see them going anywhere when things can still get so much worse internationally after the US gets hit. I mean, who are these guys planning on selling the goods and commodities to??

But some good points have been made all around.

Regards,

Ron

Today was looking at current issue of "Personal Investment" an Aussie mag. All the gurus were saying to reduce exposure to the US markets and this was presumably a few weeks back that they said that.
