I'll add to that: Chuckie Strauch gets hammered and is pissed off due to no new deals signed. He wonders over to the blackjack table and lays down our $210 mill in green chips. Hits a blackjack and voila we have eps growth of 2700% for the 4th qtr 98. (about 4.35 per share). that's what i'd like to see rather than this bitch slowly taking the life out of us.
Jay the fundamentals (balance sheet side) are ok, but we need GROWTH.

ps on the dec 12.5's, looking at old option volumes, the big buyers are usually correct, so lets hope whoever it was is bullish.

Reasons why someone bought 1000 Dec. 12.5 calls:

1) CLECs, ILECs, ISPs, and other private networks deploy high-speed internet access faster than the RBOCs (see FORTUNE article that someone linked to a while back entitled "Small Telecos With an Entrepreneurial Edge" October 26, 1998). Concentric, Kovad, Focal, Allegiance, and a myriad of other upstart telecos focuses on DSL.
2) Chuck stated numerous times during the 3Q 98 CC that Avidia was in trial and expected TO SHIP December 1998.
3) Rockwell (Conexant) will begin producing modems using the Falcon chip. The modems will be capable of analog AND DSL functions. (From PAIR Avidia press release: "Rockwell agreed to license PairGain's DMT ADSL technology for integration into consumer ADSL modems targeted to residential consumer and business markets."
4) DSLAM is the next wave in DSL rollout and Avidia is clearly positioned to take advantage of this, allowing interoperability with the first generation ATM DSL deployment.
5) PAIR is partying in Vegas, at the same time, the ALTS convention and trade show is taking place.

PS. I don't know how Jay does it. Thanksgiving, now Vegas with PAIR. Wow!

Jay, When I suggested the lady or the tiger behind door number 3,

that wasn't quite what I had in mind. Amazing how an idea can be immediately improved upon. Alas, it was a moot point, as it appears to be the tiger.
