3Com to Unveil PalmPilot With Wireless Internet Link Tomorrow Bloomberg - December 1, 1998 21:10 EST Santa Clara, California, Dec. 1 (Bloomberg) -- 3Com Corp. is expected to introduce a version of its PalmPilot hand-held computer that will let users connect to the Internet with wireless communications. 3Com, the No. 2 computer-networking company, plans to unveil the product tomorrow at a meeting of software developers, the 3Com Palm Computing Platform Worldwide Developer Conference, the people familiar with the product said. The Santa Clara, California-based company declined to comment. The PalmPilot, which let users store information like names and addresses electronically, accounts for more than 70 percent of U.S. sales of hand-held computers, with more than 1 million of the devices sold this year, according to market researcher International Data Corp. 3Com, which is battling Casio Computer Co. and other makers of devices run by Microsoft Corp.'s Windows CE software, has said its Palm III Organizer, the latest version, is its fastest- growing product. Shares of 3Com gained fell [sic] 4 3/16, or 11 percent, to 42 7/8. An agreement with top database software maker Oracle Corp. lets workers use the Palm to access sales information and other corporate data when they're away from the office. o~~~ O
