Anthony, thanks for your posts. Although I have not seen the data from Searle, it looks like the incidence (occurence) of gastric bleeding requiring hospitalization from the study were so low that: either the difference between the placebo and control group is not statistically significant for this event (gastric bleeding requiring hospitalization) or the low numbers do not permit them to draw statistical conclusion.

there is a difference between a full blown bleeding ulcer
and a small ulceration
panel is saying, yes there were ulcers in the nsaid group
yes, there were less ulcers in the celebrex group
but maybe those ulcers weren't that serious
and they would have healed on their own
meaning celebrex isn't that great

real issue is with long term use
where they could become more serious
so short term they are saying nsaids
may be no more dangerous than celebrex
