$100M is a lot of money, regardless of BG's net worth. It will vaccinate a lot of kids. I applaud him. (This is not a new ploy by BG. His philanthropical pursuits have been going on for years.)

I can't believe you are criticizing an act of charity! Now you ARE a cynic.

ToySoldier,

Yep, seems like your simple mind is at it again. Bill's donation is about 6/10ths of 1% and not 1/10 like you stated. (You were never too good in math anyway.) And since you stated that you only gave 2/10 of 1%, that makes Bill at least 3 times better than you. And the fact that you mock his generous donation which will save millions of human lives makes Bill (and just about anyone else) infinitely better than you.

Ed

From the 48 Laws of Power (As reported in the Utne Reader)
Law #12
Use Selective Acts of Honesty and Generosity to Disarm Your Victim
One sincere and honest move will cover dozens of dishonest ones. Openhearted gestures of honesty and generosity bring down the guard of even the most suspicious people. Once you open a hole in their armor, you can deceive and manipulate them at will. A timely gift -- a Trojan horse -- will serve the same purpose.

Toy:

I'm sure your chosen charity appreciated that $20.00 donation, hope you got a receipt for tax purposes...

Bill and Melinda Gates have been giving to children's health charities for years. They made their first donation to PATH (the organization that will coordinate the grant expenditures) in 1995 and gave PATH another significant donation last year. This particular donation has been in the works for nearly a year. Your cynicism on this donation is misinformed and disgusting. They are going to save literally hundreds of thousands of children's lives with this program and they will do it in a more effective way than any other philanthropists I know of.

The Gateses have already put over $2 billion into their foundations and they will do much more over the next decade, completely unrelated to any business concerns.

Get a life, Toy. It's more dignified to acknowledge and appreciate a great act than to try to look for some nefarious motivation.
