(Asia Pulse via COMTEX) -- Five global computer majors including
Microsoft and Compaq have formed a joint initiative to take on the just opened up internet market in India.

Other companies in the initiative are the microprocessor major Intel, global leader in switches and routers Cisco and the Satellite and Gateway major Loral Orion.

The companies announced their roles in the initiative called 'Team Internet' meant to address the
Indian internet market at an 'ISP Summit' here on Tuesday.

"We formed the team since none of us are competitors in any way in the internet market," a team spokesman said, adding the team would work towards addressing the Indian internet market in a
concerted manner to penetrate market segments faster and deeper.

Intel offers microprocessor, while Compaq would sell servers and platforms. Cisco offers switches and routers, while Microsoft has a product line of software tools for navigating the Internet. Loral
Orion is in the business of international gateway access.
