NRMI Internet News Wednesday December 2 Company Press Release SOURCE: National Record Mart, Inc. National Record Mart to Launch Interactive Music and Video Online Internet Site Web Site Developed on Foundation to Support End Consumer as Well as Business To Business E-Commerce Between Entertainment Retailers PITTSBURGH, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- NATIONAL RECORD MART, INC., (Nasdaq: NRMI - news), the fifth largest retailer of prerecorded music, announced today that it will enter the online music Internet business this Christmas selling season through two consumer oriented retail sites, ''Wavesmusic.com'' and ''Nrmmusic.com''. In addition, the entry of the NRM web site will set the foundation for computer to computer transactions between different retailers and distributors in music and other entertainment products at prices below wholesale. This feature is a new application for e-commerce as it relates to music, video and other entertainment products on the Internet. Initially, the retail site for consumer use will provide a selection of over 250,000 varied pre-recorded entertainment products at prices designed to attract consumers to the site and will permit the end consumer to purchase used pre-recorded music products at prices considerably below the cost of new products. Thereafter, the Internet site will permit a consumer to buy and sell ''used'' pre-recorded music products. The end consumer will have knowledge of exactly what used products and how many of each are available. Sales of the product will immediately adjust the remaining availability. NRM believes the uniqueness of the limited quantities of used product along with instantaneous knowledge of what products are available, will generate multiple entries to the web site. Unlike many of the web sites currently supporting consumer to consumer Internet business which generally use an encyclopedia type format for locating and purchasing product on an individual purchase basis, this site will be built upon uniform pricing codes (UPC). Over the coming year, the inclusion of the UPC database system will provide the basis for computer to computer interchange and therefore permit high speed analysis and review of major inventories that may be available for resale between retailers. The inclusion of the SKU database can eventually set the foundation for confidential transactions between retailers in many different industries. This system will also ultimately permit retailers that are unable to buy from major manufacturers and distributors access to a site at which products will become available to them at prices that should make them competitive with their largest peer groups. The consumer based web site will offer customers the opportunity to purchase DVD (digital versatile disks) at very competitive pricing in a special offer section. These ''special offers'' will change often and make available to consumers special deals not always found in ''brick and mortar'' stores. This site will also offer a custom CD and song download Internet service. This will allow customers to create their own CD on a song by song basis. The more than 28,000 song selections consist of rare recordings and music by a diverse group of artists. The customized CD can be personalized and manufactured for the customer or downloaded directly to the customer's computer. In supporting the consumer based Internet site, NRM will have at its advantage over 860,000 customers who have currently signed up for the NRM customer loyalty program ''Passport''. The availability to immediately interact with this core database through the Internet will provide significant opportunity for National Record Mart, Inc. to become reasonably profitable at the inception and launch of its web site. William A. Teitelbaum, Chairman, CEO and President, stated that, ''NRM has long recognized that a key focus in making the Internet more than a cosmic reality was the requirement to develop a foundation and structure that combines a physical world of real inventory with the cyber world of instantaneous communication between various parties through the Internet. At the same time, we recognized that the driving force behind making the Internet a profitable venue required a competitive advantage for all of the parties involved in the use of the Internet experience. In this regard, we realized that at both the consumer and e-commerce levels of Internet usage either a significant incremental experience and/or service has to be provided to the end consumer or methodology for taking costs out of the system had to be a significant feature of the Internet based web site. The NRMI site will accomplish each of these goals.'' National Record Mart, Inc. is a specialty retailer of pre-recorded music and entertainment products. The Company currently has 172 stores in 30 states and is the nation's fifth largest specialty retailer of prerecorded music.
