(COMTEX) Moldavia soldiers get away with turning unit into brothel.
Moldavia soldiers get away with turning unit into brothel.

KISHINEV, December 2 (Itar-Tass) - As cold weather has approached, all
the soldiers of an artillery brigade, deployed in the western city of
Ungen, have been packed into one barracks "to keep warmth in" and a
close watch on them after they tried to turn they unit into a common
brothel.

From now on, it will be impossible for minor girls to penetrate into
the military compounds, Captain Viorel Buketaru, a duty officer, said.

The problem is that the men, unbeknownst to the brigade's commanders,
had been letting in local prostitutes for about a month, so that girls
add colour to their dull everyday lives.

The guests showed understanding of the hard financial situation of the
cash-stripped soldiers and worked on a barter basis, namely in exchange
for food, cigarettes, drinks, and other little presents.

When the local civilian authorities learnt about the barracks turned
brothel, they sent a furious letter to Defence Minister Valery Passatu.

Greatly were they surprised when, instead of a devastating criticism
they had expected from the central authorities to the unit's
commanders, they received a mild reply message saying that the
"visiting" girls "are leading an amoral life and posing a threat to the
soldiers' health."
