"His words(St. Ignatius 30-107) are not equal to the Word of God, but the next best thing. The words of these early Apostles, because of their proximity to the first Apostles and disciples, help us understand the true meaning of the Gospels from an apostolic perspective." Hi Steve, My prayers are with your wife in her spiritual and physical condition, your children and yourself during her sickenss. There is both spiritual and physical healing in Christ and may fullness of Christ's healing come upon her and your family. Now to the more unpleasant task of wrestling with our words and thoughts. You misquoted my above statement by saying:Emile, The next best thing to God is far, far away from God! Did I say "the next best thing to God", OR "the best next thing to God's Word" are the words of His Apostles and the disciples whom they trained. We are faced with many doctrinaly disagreements, so its important not to leas our zeal distort one anothers words. There's a big difference between what I said and what you said I said. Your statement implies that I would consider something almost as good as God himself, but my statement said that next to God's Word are the words of his holy Apostles and saints of the Apotolic era. As for these words: "I am surprised you put so much weight into an imperfect human and his views. It leaves you open to many, many errors." It is true that the Church is made up of imperfect humans, but the living Gospel that they carry and give to men continues to save millions generation after generation. The Holy Spirit assures us that it will continue to live in the midest of, to teach and to direct these men that make up the Body of Christ. It is these imperfect men who have been used for two thousand years to spreak the Gospel. And finally, you say: "Emile, stand on God's word alone. That's all you need...." No, Steve, that is not all I need as a Chrsitians. I also need the Holy Spirit and the Body of Christ to nurture, guide and strengthen me. It is a unscriptural fundamentlist myth that all we need is the Word. The Word of God is pure and perfect, but it has not feet or mind without the Body of Christ. It is through the men who make up the Church that we hear the Gospel! It is through the Church that we are nurtured and taught! It is where two or more imperfect Christians are gather together that the Holy Spirit comes specially in their midst to lead them. The Church is a Holy Organism created by Jesus as His Holy Temple. The Church is one with Christ and indispensable to a Christian life. Using the wise and anointed writings of the early Christians helps us to come into unity with the mind of the universal Body of Christ. The Holy Spirit has worked equally with every era and epoch of Christian history and Christians are nurished and strenthened by this universal Body. The Bible, the Word of God, is the family history of the Christian people. Love you and hoping for us to grown into the full stature of the Son of God. Emile
