Bill, re: gold in Japan!

Reports of a surge in investment demand for gold in Japan have been
confirmed by the latest trade statistics. Imports of gold during October totalled 19.93 tonnes, 262% up on the previous month's 5.51 tonnes and 145% higher than the 8.12 tonnes imported in October 1997. In Pakistan, meanwhile, in a move to boost the jewellery export business, the government has announced that exporters of jewellery will be allowed to import up to 400 ounces of gold without payment of import duty and other surcharges.

Mike
