Sony phones need power level reset

PARK RIDGE, N.J.—Sony Electronics Inc. is contacting users of an
estimated 60,000 Sony dual-band wireless phones in the United States
because some may have power settings in excess of the maximum level
authorized by the Federal Communications Commission.

The affected phones were manufactured between February and June. The
model numbers are CM-B3200, CM-B3200PRC, CM-B2200PRC and
CM-B1201SPR.

Sony said it is voluntarily contacting all affected end-users and
encouraging them to bring in their phones for testing and adjustment of the
power setting, which is accomplished through a software upgrade.

Sprint expands digital PCS cities

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.—Motorola, Inc.'s Cellular Infrastructure

communications service in several key markets as part of the expansion of
its nationwide network. Seven of these new markets are using Motorola
CIG's Code Division Multiple Access network equipment.

The newest Sprint PCS network expansion delivers service to customers
in Cincinnati, Columbus, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Charlotte, Raleigh and
Greensboro, N.C. Service in Charlotte, N.C., will begin later this week.

‘‘Because Motorola CIG's CDMA system is based on the IS-41 Rev C
protocol, Sprint PCS customers will be able to roam throughout the
company's entire multi-vendor network,'' said Woody Ritchey, vice
president and general manager of Motorola CIG's Americas Cellular
Infrastructure Group.
