Bank of America to Deliver Wireless Banking Services Via 3COM Palm VII
Organizer; Online banking leader will be first to offer real-time
wireless banking services - BW, 01:35 p.m Dec 02, 1998 Eastern

SAN FRANCISCO --(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 1998--
Bank of America (NYSE:BAC)today announced plans to
deliver wireless banking services to users of the Palm VII(TM)
connected organizer -- the first all-in-one wireless handheld
computing product from Palm Computing, Inc., a 3Com
company. With mobile connectivity to Bank of America's web
site (www.bankamerica.com), Palm VII users will have
real-time access to their personal bank account information
through a connection to Bank of America's Home Banking. For
the first time in history, with a few electronic pen strokes,
people will be able to check their balances and see which checks
have cleared anytime, anywhere without a personal computer or
telephone.

"Welcome to banking in the 21st century," said Michael DeVico,
executive vice president of Bank of America's Interactive
Banking Division. "Consumers on the go will no longer have to
depend on plug in access to quickly and easily obtain account
information and do their banking. From personal computers to
broadband cable networks, wireless banking is yet another
example of Bank of America working to provide its customers
with a wide range of access channels to conduct their banking."

"Bank of America has built a great reputation for using the
Internet to provide leading-edge customer services," said Andrea
Butter, acting vice president of marketing of Palm Computing.
"Add the ability to access this kind of service from your pocket,
and the opportunity becomes even more compelling for Palm
VII users. It is precisely this type of capability that will fuel the
continuing rapid growth of the online financial services market."

The Palm VII connected organizer is the first handheld solution
for out-of-the-box wireless communications and Internet access.
In addition to providing fast and simple access to personal and
business information, the Palm VII organizer enables users to
quickly, easily and securely obtain information from Web sites
via a wireless connection to the Internet and provides a means of
instant two-way personal communications. The Palm VII
organizer enters a national field trial in January 1999, and is
expected to be widely available in the U.S. next year.

With the Palm VII organizer, 3Com also introduces a
revolutionary new model for accessing Internet information,
called web clipping. Web clipping is a means of extracting a
specific set of needed information from a given Web site, by
requesting certain types of information via special query forms
that reside on the Palm VII device. Information received from
the Internet by a Palm VII user is automatically optimized for
viewing on the Palm VII screen. About Bank of America

>> Maybe
AOL should have bought 3Com <vbg> ...<<

No kidding!! AOL will have to be hitting all those
eyeballs glued to the Palm Pilot

re: Palm browser...didn't know this existed...believe it
or not, I've never even held one in my palm.

But, I would think that the browser will have to go
through major upgrades to include all this new capability,
just about making it a new browser.

Sheesh, another reason why Gates wants the PP...competition
with IE. Gates better get on his hands and knees again
and with EB and hope he can start building browsers and
major "office" software for the PP.
