NT 5 won't be released in time to have an impact in FY99. It probably won't be shipped until June of 2000. Coupled with the fact that most people are learning it is bettter to buy a new MSFT OS at the end of the sales cycle (Win95 a few months ago and Win98 just before Win200 is released) because MSFT software is so buggy. (I bought Win95 when it first came out and learned that later releases had bug fixes that I couldn't get (not available in service packs) unless I paid again.) If more people keep waiting for later releases, service packs or patches before they buy, rev's will ramp up slower than in past cycles.

Do you know how the unit shipments for Win98 compare with Win95 when it was released?

On the other hand NT 4.0 is so slow and buggy, maybe it will force upgrades - hmm, now that would be a great business model for a monopoly. :>

IMHO the best thing about deferred revenue is the ability to plug a few bad consecutive quarters - good for MSFT investors I should think

I look forward to you "setting me straight," but don't expect me to respond.
