What did technology investors do with the cash they raked in from Monday's sell-off of Internet stocks? They poured it back into the sector the next day.

Internet and e-commerce issues led the tech-market higher Tuesday, as the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 54.21 to 2003.75. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 16.99 to 9133.54.

Almost 31.9 million shares of WavePhore [WAVO] moved to make it the most heavily traded stock on U.S. markets. The Phoenix-based company, which broadcasts news and information directly to PCs, rose 7 1/2 to 15 1/4 after launching a channel featuring products and catalogs of nine vendors.

Bluefly [BFLY] picked up 6 1/8 to 20 15/16. The online clothing seller said it will have a site on Yahoo's shopping mall. Yahoo [YHOO] increased 14 1/4 to 206 1/4.

Amazon.com [AMZN] advanced 17 1/2 to 209 1/2. The online retailer, which said it is now the exclusive books and music merchant of Broadcast.com [BCST], fell 3 1/2 to 62 1/2.

PinkMonkey.com [PMKY] went up 6 3/8 to 10. The company recently rolled out a website selling study aids and test-preparation software.

Investors did take down some recent fliers. Allnet Services [AWEB], which gained last week after introducing a Spanish language website selling monitors, dropped 3 1/4 to 5.

Metacreations [MCRE] slid 2 11/16 to 5 3/8 a day after it advanced on news of a new distribution deal with Microsoft, which licensed the Metastream player for inclusion in Windows 98.

Onsale [ONSL] dropped 7 1/4 to 54 1/4 after Needham & Co. downgraded the stock to buy from strong buy.

MCI WorldCom [WCOM] gained 3 1/8 to 62 1/8. Chairman Bert Roberts said MCI WorldCom may buy a mobile-phone service provider sometime in the next several years as wireless competition increases and makes those companies cheaper.

Among other active technology stocks, Egghead.com [EGGS] slid 5/16 to 25 3/16, Dell [DELL] moved up 4 to 64 13/16, and Microsoft [MSFT] advanced 7 9/16 to 129 9/16. America Online [AOL] increased 2 3/16 to 89 3/4, and Cisco [CSCO] picked up 4 3/8 to 79 3/4.
