>>> Alan Kay was at PARC when the Dynabook idea was first being kicked around, though I imagine it was a collaborative effort. The first relevant web ref Dogpile came up with is this:
<<<

Alan Kay was a guy on the team, and not the most important one or number two either. A few years ago the guys who actually did the crucial work there got a little pissed because Kay let Jobs overpromote his role in these developments while flogging the Mac to us, and started to go public with their displeasure. Part of the fight that eventually resulted in both Apple and MSFT having to pay Xerox for the windowing GUI patents. If you are interested in what really happened, concerning the mouse, icons, the dynabook etc there are a couple of books out about the team now.

FWIW, Kay himself never makes these claims publicly that I have seen. But he lets others make them without challenge. In serious research circles that's a no-no too. Although one frequently committed.
