The only problem is that the price will probably just gap up - especially in today's market if the issue is thinly traded - and only very few of the TA followers will succeed in getting in at the lower price. The set of the lucky ones will vary from one run to the other, thus making consistent gains impossible for any one investor, though on paper the system will look good.

That might be true, especially in the currency markets where they seem to trade almost entirely on the technicals. It also seems prevalent in the bond market where I've mostly traded. Most of my exposure to TA is from the futures markets. (plus hubby is a strong proponent).

Stocks, however, seem to be subject to many more influences than bonds and currencies. These could be rumors, analysts' remarks and price action in similar groups. I don't listen to any technical advisors; but I do watch the NDX and SPX for clues.
