Interesting article on some of Java's strengths from NCSA website

access.ncsa.uiuc.edu

Also there is an article there on Internet2 Qbone project. Discusses QOS for video, voice and teleimmersion. Is teleimmersion similar to telepresence? I think telepresence (a realtime 3d representation of yourself and others in a virtual world) is an interesting concept.

Bill,

Look at it this way:

1 billion smart cards over 10 years @.25 royalty per unit:
$25 million per year. Not a king's ransom.

Add in 50,000 E-5000's sold to service the Java-based smart cards
(1 server per 20,000 customers) @$500,000 per unit:
$2.50 billion per year, not including service & support.
Now that's better.

cheers,

cherylw
