Richard, I am not sure where you live but you can short at any price but certain brokers have certain rules. Here are some guidelines that I have from a course I have taken: $2.00 or more per share..150% of current market value $1.50 to $1.99...........$3.00 per share $0.25 to $1.49...........200% of current market value under $0.25..............100% of current market value + $0.25 per share Option eligible Securities..130% of current market value But keep in mind you also have the proceeds from the sale and the value you need in the account is like a margin account.
