There was a recent court settlement where several of the Big Boys paid Large Amounts of Money while "admitting no guilt" in the area of supporting the price of a stock. I find it very difficult to believe these stocks can stay up without someone "helping out". It's (in a bad way) like the U.S. Navy Submarine Service; you know it's there, but you have no idea how important it is because nobody ever talks about it. Look at MALL. Watch the spread; lots of times it's over a half, occasionally over a dollar. What is that stock really worth?
