Pierre: Correct. There is, however, a little loophole that might help get some of these projects to be capitalized instead of expensed.

If the Y2K fix involves creating an entire set of new code, then it can be capitalized. This is what VXTK is pushing with their I|Nova toolset. It reads your existing stuff, figures out what to do, then creates an entire new set of code. It looks a whole bunch like what went in, except for some reformatting changes.

Pretty questionable practice, if you ask me.

Not just from a tax standpoint, either!
