Mary, China, like all nations, is a mixed economy. They call their mixed economy Communist. We call ours Capitalistic. In both, all important functions are socialized while greed and fear are allowed to run less important sectors. With occasional socialized bailouts of the "efficient" capitalistic part of both systems, such as Alan The Printer's recent saving of his buddies in the banking and brokerage businesses. What we do have is infinitely more freedom. The Dictatorship of the Proletariat is still alive and kicking in China, Korea and Cuba. And, believe it or not, they and the more publicized terrorists, are still threats to our security.

My point is that Joe was saying that there were no longer major threats from competitors to US dominance thanks to our successful undermining of The Soviet Union. That is nonsense.
