<<<The leadership of the Jews did oppose Jesus and sought to kill him. The common Jew however believed in Him.>>>

Half your statement is true and the other half is false.

Listen to the scriptures.

And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. Matt

Who do you think this great multitude of people were? It was not the chief priests, they are the ones that sent them, it wasn't any of the elders, they didn't want to be seen with the mob. It was not the Roman guard, scripture would have said so. It was the Jewish people and it wasn't just a few it was a whole multitude. How many do you think constitutes a multitude? A lot! Of all involved I only read of Peter rising up to defend him.

DLL,

And again;

If the common people accepted Jesus then how come they persecuted the church? How come only three thousand were added to them on the day of Penticost? Why weren't all but the officials converted to christianity if they so embraced Christ? The answer is obvious, only a remnant is ever saved because a natural man in his natural state hates the things of God.
