OT - GlobalStar handset transmit power...

Does anyone know what the max transmit power is?
1W? 10W?

Is this safe?
When I worked at Nortel, some work was done investigating
how much the human head attenuated the transmission.
They weren't to bothered about health affects.

(No - they didn't go around shoving interns heads into a microwave.
They used a perspex box filled with saltwater, fitted with probes.
Apparently, this was a British Standard Head. Amazing what they do at
the BSI)

I vaguely remember a case where a wireless 'phone engineer sued his employer, Motorola, after he developed a tumour behind his ear.
He had been working on wireless 'phones for 7 years or so. I don't remember the outcome.
